The only reason that the second question is relevant here is this, it will affect how we draft next year. The worse the team, the better the draft picks we get. Maybe Hart can find another 15 million/year in his payroll for a MVP type hitter.

If he signs with a team that drafts in the top sixteen we only get two supplemental picks between rounds 1-2. Any team in the top 16 can't lose a first round pick. We already have two of those picks in Cordova and Alan Horne who did not sign. With Gonzales signing elswhere we will have four extra draft picks beteween rounds 1-2.

the Mets are rumored to be working a multi-pronged attack to bring in BOTH Mo Vaughn and Juan!!! Cripes! I read on a Mets board that in order to pull it off, Mo must defer alot of money (which is the current holdup) and Juan is to sign in the $8-12M/yr range! Cripes again! That's a range that the tribe could have afforded!

It just magnifies how stupid Juan was to leave 140 million on the table in Detroit. If he had half a brain and accepted that contract we wouldn't even be talking about him because he would never have been an Indian. He sure looked good in a Tribe uniform though!

I wonder if Moorad has ever heard of a conflict of interest. Seriously, the dude is trying to force the Mets to pick up both Vaughn and Gonzo, which probably will hurt Vaughn because it might cause the Mets to balk at the idea of the trade. Possibly Gonzo will sign for only 12 mill a year, but that is only after the Mets take on Vaughn's contract, as a result, the actual amount for Gonzo's contract is higher then you think.
Hmm...I guess the Mets signing Gonzo would give us the most value in draft picks...and from what I saw on the guy's website...Cordova only gave us a supplemental pick in the 2nd round...because he was a Class C FA. Hmm...wonder if Philly could afford him...maybe if they trade Rolen to someone...that might work...

Mo and Gonzo can keep each other company on the DL. I love this stockpiling of draft picks.

There's another way to spin that teach.
That means Juan hit between .350-370 in the early innings of games...when your goal is to get a lead and put the other team on the ropes.
Plus, in later innings, Juan may have gone more for the homer to try and win games.
I seem to recall at least a few late inning homers that Juan hit that enabled us to win close games.

Same here Teacher! Let these aging broken down veterans go elswhere. Gonzales will continue to have more injuries to his back especially if a team is stupid enough to give him the security of a multi year contract. That seems to be lost on most people here.

I just don't get Appier for Vaughn. Is Phillips trying to turn the Mets into last year's Tribe- all hitting and no pitching? Appier is no Cy Young candidate but he eats plenty of innings, and his departure leaves them with just one RH starter (and how will they get another one if they blow the rest of the bidget on Juan?) Weird.
